UFI Funds CCMF Scholarship

Urban Futures, Inc. (UFI) has donated funds to the California City Management Foundation (CCMF) to establish the Mark Curran Scholarship.

The Mark Curran Scholarship is new to the CCMF scholarship program, which awards the Wes McClure Scholarship annually. Scholarships are awarded to prospective graduate students attending a public or private university in California, who show an interest in pursuing a career in local government.

The 2016 recipient of the Mark Curran Scholarship is Natalie Hernandez. She is a 2013 graduate of Loyola Marymount University and a current Project Assistant for the Institute of Local Government (ILG) in Sacramento. She will attend the USC Sol Price School’s Master of Planning Program from 2016-18.

Mark Curran was a valued member of the city manager community. He served for years on the CCMF Board of Directors as treasurer. Professionally, he worked with many cities, issuing bonds for critical infrastructure projects since the late 1970’s. UFI CEO Michael Busch was fortunate to call Mark a friend and colleague.

“I made a decision some nine years ago to leave public service.  Today, as the owner of Urban Futures, I continue my pursuit of helping public agencies perform better and I credit my professional and personal growth to CCMF’s Future City Manager’s Workshop and the mentoring from several city managers including Glenn Southard, Wade McKinney, Marcia Raines and Rita Geldert.  I run my business like a city manager because of my training and mentoring.  As it turns out, you can take the man out of the city manager profession, but you can’t take the professional standards out of the man.” – Michael Busch, CEO of UFI

UFI is a company that looks for ways to personally and professionally give back. From sponsoring activities in local communities to contributing to the growth of emerging professionals, Mike Busch and the UFI team are committed to paying it forward.
